It’s important for families to help their students get prepared for the upcoming school year – and that goes beyond just getting new notebooks and pencils. For our high school and college students, we want to help them be prepared for a successful season. Auto Works Automotive has prepared a checklist for your child’s vehicle maintenance while back to school season is upon us.

  1. Change the oil

This might seem like a no-brainer, but changing your oil is a common maintenance task that is overlooked. This ensures that your engine will continue to run smoothly, and you can assure a safe drive.

  1. Tire Pressure and tire tread

Checking tire pressure is vital for safety and can also save you money on gas. (another pro-tip is to add an air pressure gauge to your roadside emergency kit) Another test to run is to see how the tire tread is holding up. Those rainy Fall days can get slick if the tire tread is worn.

  1. Rotate tires

Help your tires live a longer life by getting them rotated. This will ensure that your tires will wear evenly and will give a smoother ride.

  1. Battery Life

Battery life usually lasts for 3-5 years – but you don’t want to get a phone call from your child who’s stranded on the side of the road. Making sure your battery life is tested and will last throughout the school year can help ensure a safer driving experience.

  1. Emergency Kit

Last but not least, have an emergency kit in every vehicle you own. Here is a suggested list of supplies:

  1. Roadside assistance/ tow truck phone number
  2. Insurance card
  3. Blanket
  4. Flashlight
  5. Jumper cables
  6. Snow shovel
  7. Rags
  8. Hand sanitizer
  9. Tire pressure gauge
